Dry bag for wet wakeboard gear

After a wakeboarding session, the same problem always arises: what to do with all the wet gear?
Wetsuits, jackets, helmets, Lycra, and towels often end up in the trunk in a makeshift bag, resulting in water and humidity everywhere.
A dry bag can be a simple solution for carrying wet gear after a session without having to use bags or even plastic tubs to store dripping gear each time.
Let's see what features to consider and which types can be most useful for park visitors.
Why use a dry bag for water sports?
A dry bag is normally used to protect items from water.
However, in the case of wakeboarding and other water sports, it can also be used the other way around: to separate wet equipment from the rest of your belongings.
After a session you can enter:
- moult;
- jacket;
- lycra;
- costume;
- towel;
- other wet accessories.
This way you can carry everything on your back and fit the bag in the trunk without worrying about soaking the upholstery.
Which size should I choose?
The capacity of dry bags is generally indicated in litres.
You can choose a bag large enough to hold your wetsuit, jacket, and other wet accessories after a session.
Indicatively:
- 15-20 litres: swimsuit, lycra and some accessories;
- 30 litres: good capacity to also hold an impact vest;
- 50 liters or more: enough to hold all your essential gear, including your wetsuit and helmet.
If you plan to use the bag primarily as a post-session container, I personally wouldn't choose a model that's too small. Wetsuits and impact vests, especially when still full of water, take up more space and weight.
The best dry bags for wakeboarding
Below you will find some dry bags that can be useful for carrying your equipment during and after a session.
Roll-top closure: why is it so widespread?
Many dry bags use a closure called a roll-top.
The system is simple: the top part is rolled up several times and then fixed with a clip.
This type of closure allows you to adapt the volume of the bag based on how full it is and, if closed correctly, offers good protection from water.
It's important, however, not to fill the bag completely to the brim. Leaving enough space at the top allows you to roll the closure properly.
A simple solution for the trunk
Anyone who regularly frequents a wakepark is probably familiar with the situation.
You finish shooting, quickly change, and have to gather up all your still-wet gear.
A dedicated bag can make everything more practical. You can put everything wet in it, pop it in the trunk, and take care of your gear once you get home.
It's not a huge breakthrough for anyone who practices this sport, but when you've already wasted enough time dealing with soggy gear in the trunk, having a bag made for this becomes simply convenient.
